Heritage Skills Training

Two recent reports by the National Heritage Training Group (NHTG) launched at The Prince of Wales’s Foundation for the Built Environment, highlight serious skills and knowledge gaps affecting specialist workers in England and building professionals working across the UK built heritage sector.

The future of the five million pre-1919 buildings in England could be at risk as most of the workforce undertaking repair and maintenance work does not possess all the skills required to do the job properly. In the current economic climate for many in the construction trades , the repair and maintenance of older and listed buildings and churches is a new business opportunity. But specialist skills are needed to be able to carry out work on many of these buildings and suitable and affordable training can sometimes be hard to find.

Luckily the soon to be launched  new Heritage Skill Training Centre based at the Scheduled Ancient Monument site at Manor Lodge in Sheffield will offer a solution.

Situated in central Sheffield with good parking, easy access from the train station and bus routes Sheffield Manor Lodge will provides a unique base for courses allowing considerable hands on training with live projects, all weather training barn and allowing reference to an ongoing restoration project within a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
